Our church is near a busy highway. All highways lead us somewhere. What about the highway of your life? It leads to the future, but where is that? If you died today, what would happen to you?
There's a lot of speculation about that, isn't there?
There is a book in the Bible called Romans. It's called that because it was written to people in Rome. In this book there are a series of verses that have been called "Salvation's Highway" or the "Roman Road." That's because these four verses lead to eternal life.
- All of us are born dead in trespasses and sin (Romans 3:23).
- God demands a stiff penalty for any and all sin: eternal death (Romans 6:23).
- Jesus Christ paid the penalty for sinners through His death on the cross (Romans 5:8).
- We must confess that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9).
So, where does this road take us? The first three stops along the highway can be seen in our rear view mirror -- they are all in the past. We have sinned. God, being perfectly just and holy, demands that our sin be punished. Yet, just as your friend could pay a speeding ticket for you, Jesus paid the price for needy sinners.
There's just one more stop along this highway: belief. Maybe that part isn't so easy for you? But, is there any greater question than where will your journey on life's highway to eternity will end?
